Like several first-time visitors arriving at Nainital, I planned my trip near the lake. I had seen several pictures of the famous Naini Lake, the hills rising behind it, the colourful boats and the vibrant Mall Road. There was something convenient about being able to return to the hotel whenever I wanted before heading out again. Before the trip, I had considered the lake-facing room an unnecessary expense. After staying there, I looked at it differently. Of course, travellers can find plenty of comfortable hotels in Nainital at different price points, and a lake-facing room isn’t essential for enjoying the destination. But if you are someone who values scenery, quiet mornings and relaxed evenings, paying a little more for the view can genuinely change the experience.
For me, the extra cost wasn’t simply for looking at the lake. It was for having more opportunities to slow down and enjoy Nainital without constantly being on the move.
Final thoughts
Before visiting Nainital, I thought the lake would just be another attraction on my itinerary. Instead, it became the centre of my stay.
The lake-facing room offered a completely different way of experiencing the town. I could enjoy the view without crowds, take my time over breakfast, watch the changing landscape from the window and end each day with the lights of Nainital reflected around the water.
Nainital has several landmarks to explore, from viewpoints and walking routes to markets. However, sometimes, the most memorable part of a hill-station trip is simply having a beautiful view to return to.
If one is visiting hotels in Nainital, a lake-facing room may cost a little more. For me, though, waking up to Naini Lake and ending the day with the same view made the additional expense feel completely worth it.
